That’s a Wrap! SBCCI Round 4 Applications Have Officially Closed

The fourth call for proposals for the Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI) officially closed on October 22, 2025. Read below for Frequently Asked Questions about the initiative.

Early results from the application phase are in: we received over 800 applications, bringing the total group to more than 3,000, and BBI continues to lead this initiative with unmatched experience supporting Black not-for-profits funded by the Government of Canada.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to our in-person info sessions in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver this past September and October! It was wonderful to meet so many passionate people and hear your ideas for supporting Black-led communities. We also really appreciate everyone who joined us virtually, your questions and energy made the sessions just as lively and engaging. Whether in person or virtually, it was inspiring to connect with all of you, and we can’t wait to see the amazing work you’ll do.

Since its launch in 2020, the SBCCI has been a powerful catalyst for change in the Black community helping organizations strengthen their foundations, enhance their operations, and expand their impact. Through BBI over 900 organizations supported, more than $30 million invested directly into communities, and thousands of jobs created, the initiative continues to make a lasting difference nationwide.
As we move into the next stage of the process, the BBI team and the grant application committee will begin reviewing and assessing submissions. Successful applicants can expect to hear about the outcome of their applications by late November to early December 2025.
“Since its start in 2020, SBCCI has really grown into something powerful. We’ve seen Black-led organizations strengthen their capacity, build new partnerships, and create lasting impact in their communities. It’s been inspiring to witness how this initiative continues to open doors, build confidence, and support the growth of strong, resilient Black futures across Canada.”
Edgar Adda, Project Lead, SBCCI
