Our Youth, Our Future - Experiencing Entrepreneurship
Kyiasha and KaSteva Benton were aged 10 and 11 respectively when they started out selling fudge on a main thoroughfare in the city of Halifax during the BIJ March Break Camp. This experience prepared them for the larger task of establishing a business strategy, which would allow them to raise funds for an important trip. The pair worked diligently on their business plan and successfully launched their operation.
Sharon Smith and Mariah Cromwell, aged 5 and 7 respectively at the time of their participation, were the BBI's youngest clients. The girls worked on a business plan that would allow them to earn extra money during the summer. Sharon and Mariah were given a small loan, 'seed' money, which allowed them to execute their plan. The Weymouth Falls Lemonade Stand, as they called their business, was by all accounts a profitable endeavour. It is worth noting that the loan was repaid in full within the scheduled period.
