"Constructing the Future" – A Construction Training & Job Readiness Program for the Unemployed & Under-employed
Program Overview
Constructing the Future is a 32-week program aimed at increasing the participation of working age tradespersons in the mainstream economy of Nova Scotia. It will equip existing and aspiring tradespersons from the Black community with enhanced skills, basic certifications and competencies to establish a stronger presence in Nova Scotia’s construction sector.
Program Sponsors
This program is sponsored by the Black Business Initiative (BBI) in partnership with the Apprenticeship Training and Skill Development division of the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Workforce Development.
Program will be delivered by BBI’s construction management arm, ADEPA Management Inc.
Benefits of this program
- Participants receive basic professional certification at the end of the program.
- Program offers participants hands on work experience through the 8 weeks on job training.
- Participants receive a stipend (weekly allowances) while undertaking the program.Participants build the required confidence, skills and knowledge to work in the construction sector: secure a job, start a business, or go back to trades school.
- Participants will gain an increased self-image, pride and confidence to take control of their future and achieve their full potential.
THE NEXT PHASE, PHASE 4 BEGINS ON MONDAY, JANUARY 30, 2012. THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS WEDNESDAY JANUARY 25 AT 5:00 PM.

You can download an application package for the next intake at the link below. Application packages are also available for pick up at the BBI Offices at 1660 Hollis Street, Suite 1201, Halifax.
Critical Dates
- Community presentations/ info sessions by the CTF team from January 18 - 24
- Application deadline is Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 5:00PM. No applications will be accepted after this time
- Interviews for successful applicants will be carried out on January 26 & 27, 2012
- The program is scheduled start on Monday, January 30, 2012
Information Session Dates
Individuals who are interested in being part of this program are encouraged to attend one of the information sessions at the following dates and locations.
All sessions will run from 6:30 - 7:30PM.
- Wednesday, January 18 – East Preston Mall, 1900 Hwy 7, East Preston.
- Thursday, January 19 – North Preston Community Centre, 44 Simmonds Road, North Preston
- Friday, January 20 – St. Andrews Community Centre, 3380 Barnstead Lane, Halifax (Off Bayers Rd.)
- Monday, January 23 - The Hammonds Plain Community Center, 711 Pockwood Rd, Hammonds Plains
- Tuesday, January 24 – The Wallace Lucas Community Centre, 596 Lucasville Road, Lucasville
- Tuesday, January 24 – Halifax North Memorial Library, 2285 Gottingen Street, Halifax
