Designer & Founder, Be Glitterati
Duane grew up on the tiny island of Bermuda as a quiet kid obsessed with drawing, martial arts and Manga. All public and private school kids in Bermuda are required to wear neatly pressed school uniforms from primary school to high school and as a result, Duane gained an appreciation for how a great outfit can make a person feel.
As a teenager, he felt like an outsider and was drawn to the anti establishment messages in rap music. To him, rappers were also the ultimate arbiters of slang, culture and style and he and some of his friends adopted this culture as their own. After struggling through high school, Duane studied in the Art and Design program at Bermuda College where he excelled. Shortly after graduating from Bermuda College, he was accepted into the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where he pursued an undergraduate degree in Communication Design.
Duane would go on to work as an in-house graphic designer for a few years before forming Glitterati Communications as a part-time design consultancy, taking on clients in Canada, Bermuda and beyond. In 2011, Duane got the fashion bug and put together a line of graphic tees inspired by music and pop culture. The bug never left and today, Glitterati Communications largely functions as lifestyle brand Be Glitterati that made its Atlantic Fashion Week debut in November 2015.
Duane also has a Masters Degree in Information Management and is a Records Management Analyst at the Dalhousie Medical School.
