Financial Controller

Position Profile:
Reporting to the CEO, the Controller is accountable for the implementation and management of accounting policies and procedures, the design and implementation of the financial planning process, internal control and financial reporting for BBI and its entities to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards and procedures.  The Controller is also responsible for the administration of financial and legal requirements of BBI’s loan and other projects within its entities. The Controller will liaise regularly with funders, vendors, clients, legal representation, liaise with auditors and complete external audit on a yearly basis, financial institutions, and staff to ensure financial integrity and stewardship. This position also requires the Controller to prepare financial statements for BBI and associated entities on a quarterly basis, prepare and manage annual budgets and maintain personnel employment files. The Controller also provides training and guidance to at least one direct report.

Qualifications and Key Competencies:
The minimum qualifications required to perform this role include a university degree or college diploma in accounting, business administration, commerce, or finance; a professional accounting designation (CPA or ACCA), completed or in progress; at least 3-5 years of experience in a senior accounting position and the ability to use Sage 300 ERP. Experience with not for profit organization will be an added advantage.  The job also requires strong relationship building and negotiation skills; excellent analytical skills; strong computer skills and a team player. An understanding of the challenges faced within the Black community of Nova Scotia is a must.

Entrepreneurship Engagement Manager

Position Profile:
Reporting to the Director, Entrepreneurship, the Entrepreneurship Engagement Manager (EEM) will act as a point of contact between the Black Business Initiative and its clients and will be responsible for delivering BBI’s programs. In addition to working with clients in the preparation and development of business plans, the EEM will assist clients in accessing business funding and implementing their business plan(s). The EEM will act as an account manager and manage client performance through the various stages of entrepreneurial development. As the main point of contact in their designated region, the EEM will oversee business development across the assigned client group.

Qualifications and Key Competencies:
The minimum qualifications required to perform this role include; a university degree or college diploma in business administration, commerce, economics, finance, marketing, or a related field; at least 2-3 years’ experience within the financial, commercial lending industry, or government sectors, or similar organization; and a valid Nova Scotian driver’s license with ability to travel throughout the province as required. Strong relationship building skills; a strong customer/client focus; excellent analytical skills; strong computer skills. An understanding of the challenges faced within the Black community of Nova Scotia is a must.
