The BBI honours the very best the Black business community has to offer in a number of ways.

Each year, an Entrepreneur of the Year is selected and highlights an entrepreneur with a successful and growing business that has demonstrated leadership, strong financial performance, and innovative and marketable products and/or services.

The 2009 BBI Entrepreneur of the Year was presented to Bruce Johnson, owner of City Drug Store.

Every other year, the Hector Jacques Award of Business Excellence recognizes companies that demonstrate exceptionally strong business acumen, managing the business well with a fine-tuned intelligence.

The 2008 Hector Jacques Award of Business Excellence was presented to Dr. Abdullah Kirumira, founder and owner of BioMedica, which helps provide accessible and affordable health care solutions to third world counties.

The deadline for the 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the Hector Jacques Award of Business Excellence is close of day on Friday, May 28, 2010.
