Vacancy: Training Associate
The Black Business Initiative (BBI) is a province-wide business development organization working to foster “A dynamic and vibrant Black presence within the Nova Scotia business community.” Applications are now being accepted for the following position:
Position Title: Training Associate
Location: Suite 1201, 1660 Hollis Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Reporting to BBI’s Managing Director, the Training Associate will advance all components of BBI’s internal and external training effort. The successful candidate will bring an action-oriented approach to designing training programs, applying for training funds, marketing and coordinating demand-driven training that builds capacity to innovate, enhance productivity and compete. This necessitates demonstrated capacity to collaborate and partner with stakeholders to develop and access relevant business support services, programs, activities, mentorship supports, information sessions and training that supports business growth and competitiveness.
The successful candidate will keep the website updated and managing a social media strategy. She/he must be comfortable working with Black-owned businesses, assessing their training needs and engaging relevant stakeholders to support those needs. He/she will contract and oversee trainers, consultants and volunteers in the delivery of value-added learning processes.
There is also a requirement to evaluate training processes, outcomes and customer feedback and develop programs and activity reports for funders and the BBI Board of Directors.
Post-secondary training in education, business, entrepreneurship or a related discipline and one year of related experience or an acceptable equivalent. The successful candidate will possess skills in managing results-driven training projects, programs and events. Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to write successful funding proposals, partnership proposals, grant applications, sponsorship packages and activity reports.
The candidate will demonstrate an ability to coordinate, monitor and report on performance outcomes and manage projects on-time and on budget. She/he must function fluidly in a computerized environment, use social media for marketing purposes and be able to post updates and make revisions to BBI’s website. He/she must possess sound judgment and tact in dealing with a variety of people; demonstrate excellent organizational skills; and possess an ability to maintain confidentiality. He/she must be a team player demonstrating a high degree of initiative,
a positive can-do attitude and work in a multi-task environment. She/he must be outcomes and results oriented. The candidate must have a driver’s license and be available to travel throughout the province advancing BBI’s training and development mandate.
Skills and abilities considered an asset: adult education training, curriculum design, assessment or evaluation, experience using experiential, participatory and learner-centered instructional methods; business start-up experience; project management, public speaking, experience being a trainer; familiar with training and business development organizations in NS and being familiar with training and business development needs of Black-owned firms and African Nova Scotians.
Salary Range: $32,000 to $38,000.
